Update For Public-information – Jun 2025

Public Information Committee Annual Report

June 2025

Public Information Committee’s Purpose

The Public Information Committee’s primary purpose is to carry the AA message to the alcoholic who still suffers. The Committee promotes the unity of online AA groups in accordance with Tradition One; carries the message of AA in accordance with Tradition Five; and responds to the needs of the online AA groups in accordance with Tradition Nine. The Committee provides a central source of information about Alcoholics Anonymous; general questions about our website; the OIAA organization; listed online meetings; the directory; complaints; and directs requests to the appropriate committee or Board member for a response.

1 June 2024 – 31 May 2025 Activity

PIC has 2 active members, currently. Managing incoming email requests is doable with our present “crew.” We rarely receive more than 2 or 3 requests per day, and we reply to each one promptly.

The Public Information Committee received 626 inquiries from 1 June 2024 through 31 May 2025. We received a significant number of spam emails during the same period but fewer than during the prior year. All spam emails were rejected and reported to Google. Those ranged from hateful or sexual content to offers for purchase of bitcoin; drug products; or web services.

PIC members are able to answer most questions coming to us, usually within hours of receipt. Roughly 90% of the requests were answered by a PIC member with the remaining 10% being forwarded to one of the following for a reply:

Board of Trustees or an individual trustee

Conventions

Cooperation with the Professional Community (CPC)

Communications

Finance

Policy and Admissions (PAC)

Registrar

12 Step (Steppers)

Technology

TechSteppers

Unity

We have posted a notice on the website asking for PIC volunteers but received only 2 inquiries during the past 12 months. Workspace seems to be a stumbling block.

Sample inquiries PIC receives – “How do I”…..

Get proof of attendance at an online meeting?

Get help with my drinking?

List a meeting in the OIAA Directory?

Find an online AA meeting?

Find an in-person meeting near me?

Purchase AA literature?

Report inappropriate behavior by the host at an online meeting?

Start a new in-person meeting?

How can I serve on the Public Information Committee:

Successfully complete a short, online training module

Answer a few inquiries each week, usually 2 to 3 total

Sample responses and resources are provided
